Hi,

There are few themes available in Sharepoint 2007 site. We are in the process of migrating Sharepoint 2007 sites to Sharepoint 2010. The Problem we  faced was after migration was, one of our client came and asked us, we can’t able to see the color’s and themes that we applied in Sharepoint 2007 after migrated that sites to Sharepoint 2010.

After we had a brief investigation, we found Sharepoint 2007 UI gene and Sharepoint 2010 UI gene is completely different. It won’t be available in the theme’s gallery also to apply. So, there is no way to get 2007 themes into 2010 sites until we recreate those themes.  In Sharepoint 2010 they have included ribbon control in the top title bar, that’s why those themes wont available in Sharepoint2010.

What I have done for this problem is, created all  those 2007 site themes based on the colors they used for top bar, left bar, texts and links which could be supported for Sharepoint 2010.

Sharepoint 2007:

·         Default themes are available, if we need to add any themes need to create using css files and have to deploy in “\templates\themes” folder.

·         Themes could be taken from the 12 hive folder.

Sharepoint 2010:

·         Default themes are available, if we need to add any themes, have to use “Microsoft office PowerPoint  2010” and need to save the file as *.thmx file.

·         After completing this need to upload that file (Custom themes.thmx)to the themes gallery(http://<site collection url>/_catalogs/theme/Forms/AllItems.aspx) . once we uploaded this we will get our custom theme at site theme(http://<Site URL>/_layouts/themeweb.aspx) - We can select theme for our site.

·         Our custom theme will be displayed at this page, we can select that and click apply. Changes will be saved and our site will be changed to that custom color’s we specified. Don't Worry, You no need to do anything, I have updated all the themes at below link, Migrated Sharepoint 2010 Themes. You can download  that directly and install into your SharePoint 2010 Sites.
